Desktop gadgets not functioning on Windows 7 64bit on an Acer Aspire laptop. Tried multiple solutions with no success. Hi, I bought my laptop two days ago.

Initially, the desktop gadgets worked perfectly. After installing 37 updates, and rebooting automatically two times, the desktop gadgets no longer worked. The weather gadget displayed only an icon with an "I" inside a blue circle. The other gadgets only displayed a small white box. Changing the UAC settings has not done anything, nor has restarting it.

It seems this is an extremely common error but no one seems to have a solution for it. Keep in mind, I didn't install any software except Microsoft Security Essentials, and it did not affect the gadgets.

It was only after updating that the gadgets started to malfunction. Also, I am running Windows 7, not the Vista upgrade, and it is not a Beta. This is a brand new version of Windows 7. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. First, right-click on the Sidebar icon in the system tray, and then choose Exit. If there are, just right-click and use End Process on each of them. Open up a windows explorer window and then paste the following into the location bar:. This will open up the Sidebar gadgets folder, where you should see a file named Settings.
